The January Jazz Festival showcases the talents of various countries, especially young musicians from Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic, as the Jazz Showcase music festival is supported by the International Visegrad Fund.

The festival has both free events (the concerts given by young talents) and fee paying events (where established jazz musicians will perform in the Festival Theater of the Palace of Arts art complex in Budapest)

History of the Jazz Showcase Festival Budapest

The Palace of Arts in Budapest (aka the Muveszetek Palotaja) first hosted the Jazz Showcase and Talent Exchange in 2008. The jazz festival gives a chance to the young generation of Hungarian jazz performers, and musicians from Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to present themselves not only to jazz fans, but also to noted jazz experts from Europe and the United States, broadening their knowledge and, in some cases, gaining recording and concert tour opportunities.

The first Jazz Showcase in 2008 was followed by the annual jazz talent shows, so the event has basically grown into an intriguing and much awaited jazz event in the Central Eastern European region. The festival is traditionally held at the beginning of the year, some time in early and mid January.
As clear proof of the success of the event, a good number of the musicians who entered the profession by performing on one of the stages at the Palace of Arts for a Jazz Showcase afternoon concert, have since become recognized musicians even outside of Hungary. They return now, several years later, as the main attractions at the Jazz Showcase and Talent Exchange.
Although the main goal of the Jazz Showcase is to introduce and encourage new talents, the performances on the various stages during the three days of the event are not limited to the “new generation”. Each evening, established musicians will be on the stage.
